Sunday School Plans - Pleasure, Politics & the Pen

We have taken a brief intermission in our study of Paul's letter to the Colossians to consider a series of videos taught by R.C. Sproul entitled the "Christian Worldview."

The title may be misleading.  The series seems to me to be really a more full-orbed review of secular worldviews and how they contrast with the Christian worldview.  But maybe that is a distinction without a difference.  I'm not sure.  The topics include such studies as Secularism, Existentialism, Humanism, Pragmatism and others.

We haven't watched every one of the 12 episodes.  We have seen 5, and I will show 3 more.  The following are the 3 that remain which we will watch over the course of the next 3 weeks (D.V.):

  • Hedonism
  • Government
  • Literature

These 3 topics are so relevant we cannot go a day in our lives without confronting any of them in one way or another.  To put the topics of these 3 videos in a more alliterative fashion, we might say they address:

  • Pleasure,
  • Politics and the
  • Pen

The world we live in is keenly interested in all 3.  Are you?  Am I?  What is your view on these things?  Sproul is well qualified to provide an academic and relevant evaluation of each of them.  These topics are more than pedantic overtures.  They are the bridges which often connect us tangibly to our community.  They provide common ground for interaction with those whose world-views may be VERY different than my own.  These subjects cross through cultures and connect people from various backgrounds, interests, beliefs and values.

These subjects force us to think through the relationship of our Biblical Theology to our lives and culture.  Here is an area I know I need to grow in personally.

LIVE IT.  That is what these subjects say to me as a Christian.  Jason - Live It!  If I merely "believe" it, but fail to "live" it, my faith never moves beyond the notion of an idea.  I believe the Christian Worldview makes the most sense.  What DOESN"T make sense is my frequent failure to live out these principles in some of the most visible and practical areas of life.

When we finish with these 3 videos we will return to our study of Colossians.  Appropriately, we will plunge right in where our faith and life often intersect the most violently:  Marriage & Home Life.  See Colossians 3:18-20 for the text we will begin to cover.
